As part of a program of the CEO, the IES has designed a leak detection system on a specific stretch of oil pipeline, through the SCADA remote control, to monitor the pressure and flow rate of the liquid and, in the hypothesis of a detected anomaly, suspend fuel transfers, signaling the alarm status and at the same time automatically closing the specially motorized valves.

The coexistence of the oil pipeline with the progressive increase of infrastructures in the area (whether these interfering underground and / or above ground), together with the greater sensitivity assumed in recent decades in terms of environmental safety and the necessary assumptions of responsibility for public safety, require firstly, the identification of the most sensitive areas for the control of the spill in the current conditions of the plant, with the identification of the most effective systems and technology to limit or reduce the effects that could be caused by a hypothetical accidental future spill of fuel.
